Mauchline Snuff Box

Ref: DG9001911
Sold
A great example of a mauchline snuff box, pen and ink drawing to top depicting a bear and a number of dogs. The other sides are also decorated with a basket weave pattern. Not sure this has been opened and closed very much as it is quite stiff. The tin lining has gone, but it has contained a number of tiny cowrie shells which will have worn the lining off over the years. The detail in the hand drawing in Indian ink is quite amazing. It is in used condition commensurate with age, no major losses. A more unusual picture than most. The hinge was developed by a gentleman called John Sandy, but they became known as the Laurencekirk snuff box.
