Rare Silver & Glass Travelling Lockdown Inkwell

A highly unusual silver and glass lockdown travelling inkwell. London 1830 makers Archibald Douglas, a known maker of silver inkwells. At first sight it would appear that the silver inkwell has just been "attached" to the glass part, but on closer inspection this is not the case. The silver inkwell is glass lined which forms part of the larger glass receptacle. The glass is in good order, one or two minor nibbles, there is some damage to the glass on the inside of silver inkwell. The "stopper" does not remove it is integral to the inkwell. We did wonder if it was a one off commission and also wondered as it is quite large could it have been for an artist to carry water for work out in the field.
