This really is a truly stunning French paste necklace dating from circa 1790 set into silver closed back fully marked, with extra gold decoration. 

The loops on the ends carry French silver marks. The black velvet is not original. The two rings where the end loops are attached to the necklace each one has a small gap to allow them to be removed, at first I thought it was damage but it is quite usual for jewellery of this age to have multiple uses. 

To repeat myself it is just stunning.
